Scope and Contents

The Fred R. Hammond Collection includes drawings, photographs, and other images of architectural projects built on the Washington University Campus by the firm of Hammond, Charle, Burns and Le Pere, Architects and Planners, as well as its predecessor firms including Cope and Stewardson. Of particular interest is a notebook of sketches and photographs of gargoyles from across the Washington University Danforth Campus.

Scope and Contents The Arthur Ernst Koelle Papers primarily consists of correspondence to and from Koelle and his parents, Oscar and Virginia, and sister, Ruth, during his travels through France, Spain, Tunisia, Algeria, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, England, and Scotland in 1925-1926. Mackey, Jr. Papers consists of Mackey’s original sketches and impressions of France and Italy during six week trip to Europe during the summer of 1958 with his son Gene. The collection consists of a number of bound volumes which describe Thias' life, teaching activities at Washington University, and architectural career. The collection also includes several folders of Thias' sketches and watercolors. These drawings depict buildings on the Washington University campus, St. Louis scenes, and Missouri scenes.
